TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Olam, a global leader in almond production, announced today that it has deployed the Phytech plant-centric technology service across five company orchards in the Sunraysia and Riverina regions of south eastern Australia. The total Olam area covered by the service for the 2016/17 season now exceeds 5,000 hectares, with a mixture of mature and new plantings. The deployment follows successful implementation across 700 hectares during the previous season that resulted in increased growth rates and higher yields while reducing water usage.
General Manager Almond Orchards, Rob Wheatley, commented “As the largest almond producer in Australia and in line with our best practice policies, we strive to set a positive example for sustainable, tech-smart agriculture. We believe that the Phytech service empowers our orchard management teams, providing a decision support tool that incorporates real time plant feedback to create a closed loop learning environment. Better decisions today that lead to better practices tomorrow.”
Sarig Duek, Phytech CEO, added “We are honored and proud to support Olam through their endeavor to increase productivity while preserving resources. The leading role that Olam is taking in adopting plant-data-driven practices will uplift and benefit the entire industry in meeting quality, quantity and sustainability demands.”
