London-based A.I. startup Phrasee celebrates Entrepreneurship Week with big wins

Artificial intelligence-based MarTech firm Phrasee was judged as the ‘Best New Business’ and CEO Parry Malm as ‘Tech Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the inaugural UK Business Awards.

LONDON--()--Phrasee, a London-based artificial intelligence (A.I.) marketing technology company, won the ‘Best New Business’ and ‘Tech Entrepreneur of the Year’ awards at the inaugural UK Business Awards, held in London on November 11th.

“Given that it is Global Entrepreneurship Week, I’m incredibly proud to receive these awards,” said Parry Malm (SFU BBA 2006), co-founder and CEO of Phrasee. “London’s tech economy is galvanising the country’s confidence, and we’re proud to be trailblazing the UK’s path towards entrepreneurship and tech innovation.”

Phrasee launched in February, 2015, and now employees 15 people at their headquarters in Putney, London. Their software uses A.I. to write better marketing language than humans, and they boast a who’s who of large global brands on their client roster.

Malm was also recognised with the ‘Tech Entrepreneur of the year’ award. “I’m humbled to be selected as the UK’s top tech entrepreneur for 2016. It’s a testament to one thing, and one thing alone – my ability to surround myself with awesome people. This trophy is reflective of their talent, not mine.”

In July 2016, Phrasee closed a £1m seed funding round, led by Next 15 PLC. It was the first venture capital investment in the UK’s technology sector after the Brexit referendum.

“As an immigrant myself, I hope Phrasee’s prestigious award wins prove that London is open,” noted Malm, originally from Vancouver, Canada. “London’s tech economy is a testament to the amazing people who are a part of it – from the UK, Canada, Europe, and everywhere else. Without access to such intelligent and ingenious people, we’d never be able to pioneer A.I. in Putney like we are.”

Congratulating the winners, Lindsay Hunter, Events Manager of Awards International, said: “We are truly inspired by all the initiatives showcased at the the inaugural UK Business Awards. We have learned about many outstanding business initiatives from companies who are excelling in their field. It was a pleasure to share their passion whilst hearing their presentations in the morning and to congratulate and share the success with the winners during the afternoon.”
