DÜSSELDORF, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fosun Pharmaceuticals portfolio company, miacom diagnostics GmbH, a leader in providing physicians with innovative diagnostic assays to improve therapy and outcomes for patients suffering from acute infectious diseases, today announced that its cooperation with MetaSystems advances to the next phase with operating a Metafer Rapid Pathogen Identification (“RPI”) System at the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf.
After the successful adaptation of the miacom FDA- and CE-cleared Direct Multiplex Imaging (DMI) assays for the automated MetaSystem’s RPI systems, the company has now started collecting extensive clinical data of all positive blood cultures and sputum samples at the University of Düsseldorf. Additional European sites are currently recruited and FDA trials for Sepsis and Pneumonia assays are expected to start in Q4 2016.
The Metafer RPI sytems’ slide-feeding station and the short analysis time yields an optimized workflow with high-throughput capabilities that allows the analysis of up to 15 patient samples per hour. Direct Multiplex Imaging for positive blood cultures and respiratory samples is considered to offer a great relief for medical institutes as quantitative results of bacteria in these samples can be made available to the physicians in just 30min directly from the sample without need for prior amplification. The time to result is reduced by as much as an entire day while cost of the test is significantly reduced compared to other commercial assays so that physicians can now routinely use diagnostic results for early evidence-based antibiotic therapy and supporting antibiotic stewardship programs.
“We look forward to working together with the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Heinrich-Heine-University in order to be able to soon offer a CE-cleared product to other facilities”, stated Dr. Mirko Stange, CEO miacom diagnostics.
miacom´s portfolio of DMI probes for researchers & customers from academia is continuously growing. New probes include:
- Legionella pneumophila (I-35-045)
- Legionella longbeachae (I-35-048)
