GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following recent high profile representation at this month’s 2016 Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Canada Conference in Calgary, Alberta and the more recent American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) annual conference in Orlando, Florida, the Cayman Islands captive insurance industry is stepping into the spotlight again, as it takes its message on the road to the RIMS Risk Forum Latin America 2016 (https://www.rims.org/RiskForum/Latin16/Pages/Home.aspx).
The Cayman Islands will have a high profile as a Platinum Sponsor at the event, which is being held in Bogota, Colombia, 3 – 4 October 2016. Cayman is sending a team of experienced representatives from captive insurance industry service providers to meet and talk with approximately 300 conference attendees.
The Cayman Islands has a 40 year history in the captive insurance business and a range of excellent service providers and expertise which has enabled the jurisdiction to attract over 700 captives as of 30 June, 2016. The Cayman Islands has 33 licensed insurance managers and a range of specialist professional service providers - including investment managers, lawyers, bankers and auditors. This concentration of expertise uniquely positions Cayman to attract this type of business.
The Cayman Islands’ effort to promote Cayman as the premier jurisdiction for captive insurance companies is being spearheaded by The Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC). IMAC Board Member JS de Jager is one of the Cayman delegation. “Latin America is an important market for Cayman captives. With various tax information exchange agreement with Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, to name a few), the strength of our legislative and regulatory infrastructure and the extensive experience and expertise of our local service providers, Cayman is able to offer Latin American companies a product that is well-tested and efficient. We have a number of Latin American captives domiciled here in Cayman already and we are optimistic about the opportunities to spread the word to motivate more Latin American businesses to follow their example. There are many synergies to be explored. Business travel is very convenient due to the close proximity (1 hour) of the Cayman Islands to Miami, the gateway to Central and South America, and the frequent flights on offer between Cayman and Miami and Miami and Central and South America,” he said.
Look out for the Cayman Islands exhibition table and our representatives outside the session hall. For more information or to express an interest in setting up a meeting with Cayman Islands representatives at the RIMS Risk Forum Latin America, please contact JS de Jager at firstname.lastname@example.org or Melisa Johnson at email@example.com
