Carnegie Learning’s MATHia X on a Mission to Reverse the Summer Slide

Research-proven adaptive math software offered for free to help schools start the year strong

PITTSBURGH--()--Carnegie Learning, Inc. announced today that districts looking to beat the Summer Slide can use MATHia X for free from now through October 31, 2016. The Summer Slide refers to the well-researched and documented learning loss that occurs during summer months when students often have limited access to ongoing learning opportunities. In addition to losing up to a month of learning over the summer, the impact is cumulative, often resulting in significant learning loss during a student’s K-12 career. This phenomenon is particularly prominent in high-poverty areas, which only widens the already-large socioeconomic learning gap.

Carnegie Learning’s promotion will provide both students and teachers an opportunity to try MATHia X, the company’s adaptive math software for grades 6 through 8 and Algebra I. MATHia X provides a personalized, one-to-one tutoring experience that helps students accelerate to the appropriate grade levels and get back on a path to success. Amanda Saxman, a teacher at Urban Pathways Charter School in Pittsburgh, used MATHia X with her students in the spring. “Our students had several light bulb moments while working on MATHia X,” she said, “where they made connections that really clicked.”

“Schools continue to face significant challenges, especially in low-income areas, and having to play catch-up early in the year only compounds those challenges,” said Barry Malkin, CEO at Carnegie Learning. “By getting students back on track right away, teachers can turn their attention to instructing, encouraging, and guiding their students to become the best learners they can be.”

MATHia X is a web-based software that helps students persist to solve math problems. The software helps students strengthen areas where they are weak and provides a personalized, adaptive instruction to ensure students master math concepts. Ongoing formative assessments help inform instruction and ensure teachers and students know where students stand at all times.

As an added motivation, classrooms who average six hours per student during the trial will be eligible for a special class prize.
