WEST CHICAGO, Ill.--()--After a twenty-year hiatus, Otter Pops, the delicious and fun freezer pops “like no otter,” re-enter the world of auto racing at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 race at the Darlington Raceway. While you won’t catch world famous Otter Pops Sir Isaac Lime or Alexander the Grape behind the wheel, you will see Rookie Jeffrey Earnhardt driving the Otter Pops-sponsored car at NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event televised nationally from South Carolina on NBC on September 4th. The Bojangles’ race is a “throwback race” and Earnhardt’s Otter Pops car will be decked out in a blue and yellow color scheme matching his grandfather Dale Earnhardt Sr’s, iconic racecar sponsored by Wrangler. Jeffrey Earnhardt hails from a long line of great drivers as the grandson of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and nephew of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He began his career in 2006, and is enjoying his rookie year in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2016, driving the No. 32 for the team Go FAS Racing.

"I'm really excited to have Otter Pops joining us at Darlington. I've been eating them since I can remember and you can't help but smile when you're eating an Otter Pop!” said Jeffrey Earnhardt. “It's hot this summer so I'm happy to have them being part of our team and look forward to eating a bunch of them at Darlington."

Otter Pops has a long association with the racing world, having sponsored cars in the Drag Racing and IndyCar series as well as NASCAR throughout the 80s and 90s. However, no accomplishment for the brand’s racing involvement trumps its 1992 Indy 500 win in the IndyCar series with Al Unser, Jr. driving the Otter Pops car. The Jel Sert Company, which acquired the Otter Pops brand in 1997, is thrilled to sponsor the Otter Pops car debuting at the Darlington Raceway. Otter Pops have been keeping people of all ages refreshed and hydrated for decades with their icy treats available in lime, orange, strawberry, blue raspberry, punch and grape flavors.

History abounds at the Darlington Raceway as well. The first race was Labor Day Weekend in 1950 and 25,000 spectators packed the stands for racing’s thrilling debut in South Carolina. Little did fans know that the track deviated from a standard oval shape to an egg shaped track in order to preserve the landowner’s minnow pond! The unique shape gave Darlington Raceway the reputation as the track “too tough to tame.” Darlington Raceway is as historic to NASCAR as Lambeau Field is to football.

Otter Pops are proud to be back with Jeffrey Earnhardt at the Darlington Raceway. A historic family racer, a historic brand in racing, on an historic track all lead to quite an exciting combination come September 4th.
