ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), a global leader in high quality, end-to-end signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, today announced the achievement of four strategic milestones of its industrial cyber security initiative over the first half of 2016. Together, these milestones demonstrate Belden’s commitment to the emerging industrial cyber security market and realization of its strategic vision for this market segment.
Key cyber security milestones include:
The Tofino Xenon Industrial Security Appliance now solves many of the
most specialized energy-specific cyber and physical security
challenges. The easy-to-deploy appliance protects against malicious
and unauthorized access due to system vulnerabilities, improves
supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system reliability,
provides greater security control for industrial control system (ICS)
devices, and supports more industrial protocols than any other device
available, including DNP3 and IEC 104.
The award winning Tofino Xenon Industrial Security Appliance dramatically reduces the time and resources required to protect energy power generation and transmission substations from cyber security threats. The appliance meets and exceeds the ANSI/ISA99 and ISA/IEC 62443 security standards, as well as versions five and six of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) requirements. It also meets the Department of Homeland Security’s directive to effectively isolate mission-critical systems to prohibit unsafe network protocols.
- In response to customers’ requests for a pragmatic solution to the complexities of industrial cyber security, Belden has developed a practical three-step approach to industrial cyber security strategies. The Belden 1-2-3 model provides industrial organizations with practical advice on developing a cyber security program that reduces risks while supporting and enhancing availability, reliability and safety.
- Belden’s partnership with FireEye brings together advanced detection, targeted threat intelligence and specialized Mandiant ICS services from FireEye with an industrial cyber security portfolio that includes deep visibility; endpoint intelligence and change detection from Tripwire; secure noninvasive network segmentation from Tofino; and ruggedized industrial networking solutions from GarrettCom.
- Tripwire® Configuration Compliance Manager (CCM) now monitors industrial automation environments. It allows customers to measure the configuration security of industrial environments against ANSI/ISA-62443, a global standard for securing industrial automation systems, controllers and associated networking equipment configurations. Tripwire CCM can now reduce cyber security risks from external attacks, as well as malicious insiders and human error. It does this while protecting critical infrastructure reliability, uptime and safety in industrial automation and manufacturing environments.
“Our milestones within the industrial market represent a progression of the strategy to bring leading cyber security into critical infrastructure markets,” said Dhrupad Trivedi, President of Industrial IT and Network Security for Belden. “Belden has served these markets for over a century delivering specialized solutions based on application knowhow and vertical market focus. We have deep partnerships with our customers and are uniquely positioned to deliver practical and effective solutions that leverage existing and future network architectures.”
According to The SANS 2016 State of ICS Security Survey report, 67 percent of ICS professionals across all industrial sectors perceive severe or high levels of cyber threat to control systems. This represents an increase of 24 percent over 2015 results. SANS study authors recommend that organizations allocate the financial and human resources necessary to improve security protocols that are required to protect stake holders, assets and operations. They warn that failure to put appropriate safeguards in place may place corporate survival at risk.
“The momentum and interest we are seeing in the industrial markets indicates that cyber security for industrial automation is becoming a mainstream concern,” said Rekha Shenoy, vice president and general manager of industrial cyber security for Belden. “Our commitment to a standards-based approach and support of ANSI/ISA-62443 is a critical component of the traction in both the energy and utility markets.”
