DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After five years of successful events, raising a total of $275k for various charities in Austin, Startup Games is expanding to Denver. On Saturday, October 15, teams from eight Denver startups will battle for bragging rights and raise money in support of local charities. The inaugural Colorado Startup Games will be held this year at Glitter Dome, in the city’s popular RiNo district.
“Startup Games celebrates the hardworking, competitive and fun atmosphere that drives so many successful startups and puts that culture to work for good causes," said Sara Reeves, Program Director at Notley, a newly-launched impact investment firm. Earlier this year, Startup Games joined Notley as one of its signature initiatives that amplify giving in local communities.
“Our vision is to have the top startup communities around the world competing in local events with the goal of raising $1,000,000 per year for charity,” said Reeves. “The thriving startup scene and sense of community in the Denver/Boulder area create an ideal setting for our first expansion outside of Austin.”
Teams will compete for gold, silver and bronze awards in a variety of "sports." Previous events included games such as Ping Pong, Foosball, Beer Pong, Flip Cup, Pop-a-Shot, Shuffleboard, Trivia, MarioKart, Liar’s Dice (a C-level event) and a Mystery Event. First, second and third place in each event earn points.
No matter who wins the games, local non-profit organizations win support. Startup Games is as much about philanthropy as it is about friendly competition, so each team plays on behalf of a local non-profit organization of their choice. The day's first, second and third place winners will win the largest percentage of all money raised, but every non-profit will receive a minimum donation of $1,000.
