ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, regarding today's introduction of the Government Travel Modernization Act by Reps. Will Hurd (R-TX) and Seth Moulton (D-MA):
"We applaud Reps. Hurd and Moulton - and original cosponsors Reps. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) - for supporting innovation and competition in transportation. By allowing federal employees to use alternative transportation options such as Uber and Lyft for official, reimbursable travel, the Government Travel Modernization Act will give federal employees the choices they deserve - and save taxpayers money. The federal government should not be in the business of favoring one transportation method over another. Federal workers should have the ability to choose the most cost-effective and convenient mode of transportation wherever they are traveling.
"Innovative ridesharing services supported by mobile apps are transforming the way we get around - helping cities and states by providing safer transportation options, creating jobs and reducing traffic. We're glad leaders like Reps. Hurd, Moulton, Issa, Bustos, Meadows and Swalwell recognize that supporting innovation, providing more consumer options and increasing opportunity are essential for the future economic growth of our country."
