The Internet of Things vertical service focuses on developers working on projects for connected devices in the Internet of Things, whether they're for transportation, home automation, smarter cities, retail, industry or any other type of interconnected application. The service provides year long data delivery with two global survey reports plus IoT focused data deliveries across disciplines like mobility, Big Data, and Cloud. You'll receive fresh data continuously, you'll be invited to ask your own questions of the developers, and a dedicated analyst will always be available to assist you.
The primary challenge facing Internet of Things developers is security, according to Evans the recently released Internet Of Things Development survey, and developers are identifying that threat as existing primarily in the Cloud and implementing tactics to combat it there.
The global study of over 850 developers actively developing for Internet of Things found that 46% cited security as the primary challenge facing development and adoption of IoT, followed by interoperability, cited by 28%. When it came to security mechanisms currently being implemented in IoT projects, the top one selected was Cloud access security control, cited by 46%, and VM monitoring for threat detection, 45%. These were ranked significantly higher than endpoint threat detection or machine readable threat information.
Real-time security analytics was also mentioned as an area for security implementation within Internet of Things, while analytics in general was cited by the largest plurality as their primary focus of their IoT development.
Security is important in every discipline, but no more so than in the Internet of Things development arena, said Janel Garvin, CEO of Evans Data. Security breaches in IoT can have very real and devastating consequences, and developers feel that the Cloud is both the glue that holds Internet of Things together and also the weakest link. The emphasis on analytics is apparent and turning those analytics to address the security issues is something IoT developers are doing now.
The Internet of Things Vertical service combines a semi-annual worldwide survey of developers working on IoT projects with a continuous delivery of excerpts related to IoT development from Mobile, Cloud, and Big Data surveys
