Forge Raises $4.5 Million in Series A Led by True Ventures

Social video platform closes Series A to build the easiest way for gamers to share their favorite moments

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Forge, Inc., a leading innovator in video capture and sharing services for gameplay, today announced that it has raised $4.5 million in Series A funding led by True Ventures. New investors in this round include Social Capital and gaming hardware manufacturer NZXT. Resolute Ventures and WME Ventures also participated in the round. To date, Forge has raised a total of $9 million since the launch of its public beta in February 2016.

Forge is a simple way for everyday PC gamers to share their favorite gaming moments through short, looping video clips that can be shared instantly on the Forge network and other popular social media channels, without having to exit their game. Gamers can also seamlessly livestream their gameplay to Twitch or YouTube. Since launch, Forge’s user base has been growing by more than 50 percent month over month.

“Jared is an impressive, creative founder who built a solid business out of his personal passion,” said Tony Conrad, Partner at True Ventures. “We’ve been fortunate to invest in him for the second time with Forge, and we’re thrilled to continue our support. We’re also very excited to be teaming up with Arjun and Social Capital."

"Forge democratizes the ability to capture and share epic in-game moments with the growing and vibrant gaming community," said Arjun Sethi, Partner at Social Capital. “More than 241 billion minutes of gameplay are already consumed every year, and we believe Forge will become both the toolchain and hub for the very best gaming content.”

As part of the financing, Sethi, previously founder and CEO of MessageMe (acquired by Yahoo) and CEO of social game developer Lolapps (acquired by Nexon), has joined Forge’s Board of Directors.

“Our mission as a company has always been making it easy for anyone to share gameplay,” said Jared Kim, CEO and founder at Forge. “I’ve been constantly amazed at what Forge users have been capturing and sharing every day, many of whom have never shared anything from their games prior to using Forge. We are going to continue to build the best experiences around sharing gameplay with the additional funding and introduce Forge to more users. I’m also very excited to have Arjun Sethi from Social Capital on our board, who has deep knowledge of the games space and has been a great advisor and friend over the years.”
