TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA), a leading provider of network testing, visibility, and security solutions, will showcase the world’s first public demonstration of the company’s test system running 400GbE with RS-544 Forward Error Correction (FEC) being defined by the IEEE P802.3bs Task Force, at Interop Tokyo 2016, to be held June 8th – 10th, 2016 in Chiba, Japan. The Ixia test system is the first solution capable of demonstrating line rate Ethernet traffic at 400GbE with FEC. This proves that the technology is ready for adoption.
What is IEEE defined FEC?
RS-544 FEC is a digital signal processing technique used to enhance data reliability. It does this by introducing error correcting code that is calculated prior to data transmission. The IEEE P802.3bs Task Force defines two FEC engines that are required for the electrical interface that supports 400GbE.
As an IEEE Task Force contributor, Ixia has intimate knowledge of the FEC requirements. Customers benefit from the experience and expertise Ixia has in testing 400GbE at line rate. This allows development and test engineers to uncover interoperability and network equipment performance issues early in the design cycle. Ixia will demonstrate FEC with traffic at the full line rate of 400GbE, which is approximately 600 million packets per second. In this demonstration, real-time FEC encoding will take place on the outgoing traffic data path, and at the same time FEC error correction will operate on the incoming traffic data path.
Ixia’s 400GbE test system can run, fully instrumented, with packet lengths as small as 49B, which is smaller than the minimum Ethernet frame size. The 400GbE test system feature set includes packet sequence number for out of order packet detection, flow number to identify where traffic came from on the network, and packet timestamps for latency measurements, packet capture, per flow sequence checking, and latency calculations.
