AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vapor IO, provider of the world’s first truly data defined data center solution and founding DC/OS launch partner, today announced a technology partnership with Mesosphere, creators of the (DC/OS) project. As a result of this partnership, Vapor IO will integrate OpenDCRE (Open Data Center Runtime Environment) into DC/OS to create a currency based scheduler allowing for enhanced operational agility and telemetry.
“Mist makes it possible for datacenter operators to clearly quantify and understand both the needs and the costs associated with datacenter heating, cooling, and electrical systems,” said Kelly Quinn, research manager, IDC. “At a higher level, Mist offers the next level of DC/OS for datacenters.”
“Mesosphere is thrilled to partner with Vapor to revolutionize the experience of managing datacenter-scale applications,” said Florian Leibert, Co-Founder and CEO of Mesosphere. “DC/OS already optimizes installation and resource utilization for technologies such as containers, cloud computing and big data. OpenDCRE cranks up those capabilities by letting DC/OS users figure out what infrastructure to run on in the first place.”
Using capabilities from Vapor IO’s OpenDCRE, DC/OS users will have insight into underlying infrastructure variables for their workloads to run on various public clouds versus on premise environments, which includes basic costs incurred by physical infrastructure below the rack. This is the first solution that will give CXOs insight into whether their workloads should run on premise or in the cloud, based on policies and economics. Once a decision on the environment of choice has been made, Mist can move those containers automatically or notify the business that a more optimal environment is available.
“DC/OS brings features no other competitor can claim today. Combined with Vapor IO's enhancements we’ve solved one of the biggest challenges CXOs face today, the ability to understand and orchestrate an application in context of the cost associated with the underlying infrastructure be it public cloud, colo or on premise. The world is ready for the performance per watt per currency metric,” said Cole Crawford, CEO of Vapor IO.
Vapor IO’s Open Data Center Runtime Environment (OpenDCRE) provides a securable RESTful API for monitoring and control of data center and IT equipment. It can be used as an open platform for monitoring and managing data center hardware, software and environmental characteristics. The OpenDCRE API is easy to integrate into third-party monitoring, management and orchestration solutions, while providing a simple, curl-able interface for common and custom DevOps tasks, and is an alternative to proprietary interfaces and custom silicon. There are a wide variety of possible applications, deployments, physical mounting strategies, and network connectivity options for which Vapor IO is working to foster community support.
