TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--COMPUTEX, the leading global ICT show with a complete supply chain, today celebrated its grand opening in a ceremony featuring an address by Taiwan’s new President Tsai Ing-wen. COMPUTEX today also featured new IoT and startup exhibits; the opening of the HWBOT World Tour overclocking competition; keynotes and forums by leading global information and communications technology (ICT) brands such as Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Intel, and Qualcomm. Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman Francis Liang joined President Tsai Ing-wen and 250 distinguished guests including top technology executives and government leaders to formally open COMPUTEX.
At the COMPUTEX opening ceremony, President Tsai Ing-wen remarked, “The IoT era is coming strong. Taiwan must focus on the integration of hardware and software along with low volume high variety manufacturing capabilities.” President Tsai also said that her government will develop an “Asia Silicon Valley” initiative to stimulate IoT growth and continue building a smart, digital country.
Also at the opening ceremony, TAITRA Chairman Mr. Francis Liang said, “COMPUTEX has always been in sync with the evolution of the ICT industry. This year we added designated exhibition areas for innovation and startups and for IoT applications to showcase a comprehensive ICT partnership platform. We also appreciate our international partners that organized country pavilions. With the support of Korea, France, Israel, Denmark, and India, Taiwan has the opportunity to become the Silicon Valley of Asia and the center of global technology exchange.”
Executives from global tech companies such as Mr. Rene Haas, chief commercial officer, ARM; Mr. Ryan Searle, managing director, Audi Taiwan; and distinguished foreign diplomats such as Mr. Antti Peltomäki, deputy director general, Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission; and Dr. Aruna (Limaye) Sharma, secretary at the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India, attended the opening ceremony, demonstrating COMPUTEX as a top ICT show that continues to create and connect global trends.
COMPUTEX this year opened with three new exhibits reflecting current ICT trends:
- InnoVEX, supporting the conference theme of innovative startups, features startup exhibits, keynotes, forums, demos, matchmaking, a pitch contest with a winning prize of $30,000 USD, and networking events to maximize innovative, technological, and investment exchanges to help startups succeed.
- SmarTEX, supporting the conference theme of IoT applications, features more than 160 exhibitors displaying the newest in IoT and smart tech applications with emphases on home and entertainment, smart security control, smart car and automotive electronics, wearables and 3D printing.
- iStyle, supporting the conference theme of business solutions, features Apple MFi certified peripherals and apps.
Major overclocking contest featured at COMPUTEX for the first time
Overclocking is the act of configuring a device to run beyond its factory settings. For the first time, the HWBOT World Tour stops at COMPUTEX and features the HWBOT World Series overclocking contest where extreme overclockers including six of the world’s top 10 compete for prizes and a chance to face the best of each of seven world tour stops during the OC World Championship final in Berlin, Germany at the end of the year. The contest at COMPUTEX kicked off today and is being broadcast live on Twitch, which draws more than 45 million gamers monthly to broadcast, view, and chat about gaming.
