NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Woodbridge Group of Companies, a group that has completed over $1 billion in financial transactions, today confirmed its support of the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation by signing on as lead sponsor of the Scott Baio Charity Golf Tournament.
“Far too few expectant families screen for metabolic disorders, and if diagnosed, many aren’t sure where to turn,” said Bob Shapiro, CEO of Woodbridge Group of Companies. “I’m happy the Woodbridge team is able to support a foundation that’s making a meaningful difference in the lives of families, nationwide.”
Through provisional and monetary support programs, The Bailey Baio Angel Foundation aids children and families who are affected by glutaric acidemia type 1 (GA1), an inherited disorder where the body is unable to process certain proteins properly, and other organic acidemia metabolic disorders. Organic acidemias are a group of metabolic disorders which disrupt normal amino acid metabolism, particularly branched-chain amino acids, causing a buildup of acids which are usually not present.
The Bailey Baio Angel Foundation was founded by Happy Days actor Scott Baio after his newborn daughter was incorrectly diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder. Upon researching the condition, the Baio’s discovered a whole community of people struggling to understand and cope with the consequences of metabolic disorders. In addition to its fundraising and metabolic disorder awareness goals, the foundation is trying to facilitate legislation which will mandate comprehensive newborn screening in all 50 states. The proceeds from the foundation go directly to providing supplies to the affected families. Insurance only covers what it can, therefore the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation ensures the families get what they need.
The second annual tournament will be held September 26, 2016, at the Woodland Hills Country Club in Woodland Hills, California.
