SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carling Communications today announced a pro bono assignment to assist California Lions Friends in Sight in marketing initiatives to drive volunteer recruitment and donations for its free vision screenings throughout Southern California and Northern Mexico.
Carling has organized a video shoot, in collaboration with Passage Productions, at one of California Lions Friends in Sight’s vision-screening events to capture testimonials and footage of volunteers helping community members who cannot afford vision care. Carling will incorporate the footage in a new marketing campaign to generate awareness, drive volunteer recruitment, and increase donations for California Lions Friends in Sight. The campaign will also transform existing outreach platforms and materials used by California Lions Friends in Sight, including its website and brochures. In addition, Carling will leverage its relationships with ophthalmologists and optometrists to recruit volunteer professionals for future screening events.
“We are excited at the opportunity to give back to the community in this way,” said Didi Discar, Carling’s Founder and Principal. “As an agency whose focus has always been in the eye care industry, vision screenings and vision care are vital services to which Carling has had a strong commitment for many years.”
California Lions Friends in Sight has provided free vision screenings to more than 44,000 Californians and has given out more than 39,000 pairs of recycled eyeglasses since its formation in 2010. The new marketing initiative is designed to reach more people and to strengthen the organization’s model so others locally, nationally, and internationally can adopt a proven method to help people who live with visual impairment. According to a recent study, approximately 285 million people worldwide live visually impaired and, of those, 120 million need eyeglasses and 165 million have various forms of pathology. It is estimated that 85 percent of that visual impairment is preventable or treatable.
In California, an estimated 2.8 million people have potential access-to-care issues, as they have no medical insurance or ability to pay for eye treatments or surgeries, if needed. An estimated 5.2 million people in California have no insurance to cover any needed eyeglasses.
“Our partnership with Carling Communications makes possible a new and very exciting opportunity for us to reach and serve many more underprivileged people, young and old, who would otherwise live with poor vision,” said Brian Van Dusen, O.D., President of California Lions Friends in Sight. “The combination of more-robust volunteer recruiting and donor outreach will enable us to better realize our mission to restore vision and prevent blindness.”
