BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PrismTech™, a global leader in software platforms for distributed systems, today announced that it will be hosting a free webcast, “DDS and OPC-UA Explained,” on May 24. Designed to provide clarity on the two communication technologies — and clear up any confusion and misinformation currently circulating — the event will be led by the company’s chief technology officer Angelo Corsaro, Ph.D., a widely recognized leading expert in the field.
The Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) and the OPC Foundation Open Platform Communications - Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) are commonly considered as two of the most relevant technologies for data and information management in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). There remains, however, much confusion on how the two technologies compare and their applicability to different IIoT use cases.
The catalyst behind the webcast is Dr. Corsaro’s growing concern over the many misconceptions as well as "apples-to-oranges" comparisons of the two technologies. During the webcast, Dr. Corsaro will explain the origins and key concepts behind DDS and OPC-UA. He will also clarify the differences and applicability of DDS and OPC-UA in the IIoT. Finally, he will report on the ongoing standardization activities that are looking at DDS / OPC-UA inter-working.
Registration for the hour-long webcast, scheduled for 9.00 am EDT and repeated at 2.00pm EDT May 24, is available at http://www.prismtech.com/webcast-signup.
