MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WinMagic, Inc. today announced the availability of SecureDoc CloudVM, security software that encrypts virtual machines running on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms. The solution has been purpose-built to address the growing concerns of storing critical data in virtual machines running in public, private and hybrid environments.
According to a report1 recently published from the International Data Center (IDC), worldwide spending on public cloud services is expected to grow at a 19.4 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) – calculated at almost six times the rate of overall IT spending growth – from nearly $70 billion in 2015 to more than $141 billion in 2019. More specifically, with a five-year CAGR of 27.0 percent, worldwide spending on IaaS will grow at a faster rate than Software as a Service (SaaS). SecureDoc CloudVM extends the SecureDoc platform and strengthens data security for cloud and virtual environments. SecureDoc CloudVM controls the encryption key management system across a vast array of layers including endpoints, file servers, virtual servers, enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) solutions, Internet of Things (IoT) and now private, public and hybrid clouds.
“Shifting critical business operations to virtualized environments is quickly becoming the new industry standard as companies search for ways to drive innovation and growth,” says Robert Westervelt, Analyst, IDC. “However, a critical component to this approach falls on security, primarily the ways in which data stored in the cloud is protected. Enterprise organizations must educate themselves on the right tools that will secure data without compromising usability or compliance.”
SecureDoc CloudVM’s application aware intelligent key management capability alleviates the problems associated with encryption in the cloud by providing key and policy management for virtualized workloads.
Key features and benefits of SecureDoc CloudVM include:
- Centralized intelligent key management: SecureDoc CloudVM offers a single enterprise controlled platform manager of encryption from the endpoint, public / private / hybrid cloud, to IoT and beyond.
- Hybrid cloud support: SecureDoc CloudVM offers a single common encryption and key management platform to protect all public, private and hybrid cloud instances.
- Compliance and auditing report capability: SecureDoc CloudVM enables IT departments to ensure that the way in which sensitive data is encrypted remains compliant based on regulatory and industry standards.
- Full cloud workflow & use case support: Support for elastic compute, rapid encryption requirements, auto scaling, clone, migration and backup requirements.
Cloud Security by the Numbers
According to two separate surveys commissioned by WinMagic and independent research firms OnePoll and Spiceworks, companies are incorporating cloud-based infrastructure and services within their organizations but are not entirely convinced their data is secure. In fact, data shows that only 11 percent of IT decision-maker respondents in the U.K. and the U.S. feel that their data is secure in public cloud environments. Additional data about IT decision-makers shows that:
- Sixty-three percent are concerned about employees storing company data within private cloud environments; of this number, only thirteen percent believe private clouds are secure.
- Twenty-nine percent believe their data is completely secure in a private cloud environment.
“The data speaks for itself – organizations across the globe understand the value of the cloud, but still lack the confidence in allowing for business critical data to be stored in virtual environments,” says Mark Hickman, COO, WinMagic. “WinMagic’s SecureDoc CloudVM serves to address the common security challenges and pitfalls enterprise customers face when migrating to the cloud – whether it’s public, private or hybrid. Through the application aware intelligent key management capability embedded within SecureDoc CloudVM, our customers are offered a single pane of glass view into where and how encryption is being deployed.”
SecureDoc CloudVM, now available, is an extension of WinMagic’s flagship solution SecureDoc and the recently announced SecureDoc CloudSync solution that encrypts files at the endpoint before they are synchronized to EFSS services across a range of enterprise platforms including: Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
Global Industry Survey Data Methodology
WinMagic’s 1,000
person employee and 250 person IT manager surveys were undertaken in
April 2016 by independent research company OnePoll.
Spiceworks Survey Methodology
The WinMagic-commissioned
survey was conducted by Spiceworks in December 2015 to understand how
organizations are securing data in cloud computing environments
including perceptions of cloud security and the benefits and challenges
associated with cloud services. The online survey was completed by 150
IT professionals in the United States. Respondents were required to work
for organizations currently using, or planning to use, cloud computing
services or solutions. Survey respondents also influence cloud computing
and IT security purchase decisions within their company.
