ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM, regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement:
“Although partisan politics are at an all-time high, trade shouldn’t be in the crosshairs. In contrast to closed markets, when countries can exchange goods, services and data flow freely – we can grow the economy faster, concentrate on what we do best and reach higher incomes. Trade is good, and that's why we need TPP.
“Taking full advantage of TPP will place American companies in a more competitive place in Asia in regards to China. At a time when we see some concerning measures around the world aimed at limiting information and forcing localized data, the TPP is an important tool to help protect and grow the information age. For the Internet and digital economy, the TPP’s data flow trade provisions are a clear step forward and will help to shape even more comprehensive coverage in future agreements such as the Trade in Services Agreement.
“We urge the White House and Congress to work in a bipartisan fashion, so we can continue to make gains from trade.”
