Save Our Water and ScottsMiracle-Gro Remind Californians to Continue Saving Water in Outdoor Landscapes

Public education radio ads launch for Earth Day collaboration

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--()--Save Our Water, California’s official statewide conservation education program, and ScottsMiracle-Gro, one of the most recognized lawn and gardening entities in the US, extended their partnership to launch new public messaging to encourage Californians to continue saving water in their outdoor spaces. The effort was launched the week of Earth Day, and will be heard in the Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco market areas into May.

This effort builds on the past work between Save Our Water and ScottsMiracle-Gro to encourage Californians to keep “Fixing It For Good” – taking actions that will provide long-term water savings.

“While recent rains have helped California, the drought remains very real,” ScottsMiracle-Gro CEO Jim Hagedorn states in the message. “To help you conserve water while still enjoying your yard and garden, we’re supporting the efforts of Save Our Water and research that helps create ‘water positive’ landscapes.”

Save Our Water has focused its public education efforts following the rainy season on “Californians: Fixing It For Good,” telling stories and sharing examples of how people across the state are saving water by making permanent changes everyday. The program is reminding Californians that conservation is part of the California lifestyle and that even though the state had the wettest winter in several years, it was not enough to erase four years of serious drought.

“Water conservation has taken a new meaning for Californians – it is about more than just cutting back – its about making permanent changes to keep saving,” said Jennifer Persike, Deputy Executive Director of External Affairs and Member Services of the Association of California Water Agencies. “This partnership with ScottsMiracle-Gro will help the Save Our Water message reach millions more in California this spring.”

ScottsMiracle-Gro is supporting California’s water reduction efforts with tools to create dynamic outdoor spaces that are low maintenance, save water, and inspire. As part of the effort, ScottsMiracle-Gro has launched a website at www.scottsmiraclegro.com/California to provide Californians inspiration and information on how water can be efficiently used in outdoor landscapes.

Save Our Water’s website is available in both English and Spanish and is filled with tips, tools, and inspiration to help every Californian find new and creative ways to conserve. From tips on how to keep trees healthy during the drought to an interactive section allowing users to visually explore how they can save water both inside and outside the home, Save Our Water provides Californians tools and tips to help everyone easily conserve at home and at work, every day. Save Our Water connects with Californians on its Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Save Our Water is a partnership between the Association of California Water Agencies and the California Department of Water Resources.
