BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sage Science, a developer of life science products for improving sample preparation processes in molecular biology applications, today announced the appointment of Patrick Carroll as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Carroll will oversee the expansion of Sage’s domestic and international sales as well as strategic partnerships.
Mr. Carroll has spent 30 years in the life science industry, where he has demonstrated expertise in building and managing sales operations and developing new markets. He was an early employee at Applied Biosystems, where he set up the North American and Asia-Pacific sales organizations before assuming a global role as senior vice president of worldwide sales. More recently, he spent nearly a decade at Bio-Rad managing the North American sales operation. Mr. Carroll has also been involved in a number of life science startup companies.
“I have been fortunate enough to take part in two sequencing revolutions: first with Sanger technology and now the NGS market,” said Mr. Carroll. “I believe the biggest advances for sequencing today are occurring in enabling technologies like sample prep, and I’m thrilled to be part of a company poised to have a real impact in streamlining the sequencing workflow for labs around the world.”
Sage Science manufactures and sells the Pippin line of automated DNA size selection instruments for use with all commercially available sequencing platforms. Independent studies of size selection methods have repeatedly demonstrated that the Pippin platform offers unparalleled reproducibility, accuracy, and sample recovery. Precise size selection is critical for optimizing sequencing efficiency, improving genome assemblies, and reducing project costs.
“We are excited to reach a point where we can really ramp up operations to meet rising demand for our NGS sample prep products,” said Todd Barbera, CEO of Sage Science. “With Patrick’s experience in building global sales organizations and his extensive connections in the industry, he will be essential in helping us achieve the growth and scale we envision.”
About Sage Science
Sage Science is a privately held company based in Beverly, Mass., that develops life sciences products to ease the burden and improve the quality of DNA, RNA, and protein sample preparation processes for molecular biology applications. Sage Science products are built on the idea that science is more robust and reliable when it is based on high-precision, automated, reproducible technology instead of manually intensive steps that introduce variability and error.
Its Pippin product line, including the Pippin Prep and BluePippin, offers scientists a reproducible, automated alternative to manual gels for DNA size selection that significantly reduces hands-on time while yielding more precise genomic libraries. For more information, visit www.sagescience.com.
