LENEXA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Department of Defense has completed its installation of Mediware Information Systems’ LifeTrak software suite. The blood establishment computer software, which is now live in more than 20 Military Treatment Facilities around the world, manages blood donations for the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP). LifeTrak assists with donor recruitment and management; manufacturing, testing and labeling; and blood product distribution and tracking for military blood donors, their dependents and other civilian donors.
The LifeTrak application is a key component in the Military Health System’s Enterprise Blood Management System (EBMS). The EBMS also includes Mediware’s HCLL™ Transfusion software, which is fully implemented. Used together, Mediware’s blood management applications support the ASBP’s supply chain from blood donation to transfusion. Both LifeTrak and HCLL Transfusion are 510(k)-cleared as medical devices by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
“We have spent decades helping to provide safe and efficient blood management systems, and we are honored that the U.S. military has put its trust in our experience and our software,” said Thomas Mann, Mediware’s president and chief executive officer.
The Military Health System contracted to use Mediware’s software through Thundercat Technology, a trusted provider of information technology (IT) to the federal government. The implementation was managed by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, a specialized technology company providing mission-critical solutions and services for U.S. national security, and Planned Systems International (PSI), an enterprise IT services company.

About the Armed Services Blood Program
The Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) is the official blood collection, manufacturing and transfusion program for the U.S. military. As a tri-service organization, the ASBP represents all three services—Army, Navy and Air Force—and is tasked with the collection, processing, storage and distribution of blood and blood products to ill or injured service members, veterans and their families worldwide. The program manages blood requests from the five major combatant commands by directing available blood supplies when and where needed.
