APTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Engage Black, the security business unit of Engage Communication, announced today that the BlackVault CA (“Certificate Authority”), now supports Enrollment over Secure Transport (EST) for more secure key enrollment and renewal.
Becoming an IETF standard in 2015, EST is a highly secure but lightweight method of providing certificates to end points from a CA or through an RA. It provides the following advantages:
- Ties a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to an already trusted and authenticated requestor with TLS;
- Supports elliptic curve cryptography (ECC);
- Provides for automated certificate re-enrollment and sever side key generation;
- Includes a method for refreshing trust anchors without affecting communications between entities;
The BlackVault CA is a cryptographic appliance with built-in FIPS level 3+ Hardware Security Module (HSM) and integrated CA functionality. It’s unique single trust path authentication, quorum enforcement, and touch screen administration make it both powerful yet intuitive. CA integration features include EST, OCSP, advanced cryptography, and much more.
“BlackVault CA has the right features at the right time for CA / PKI applications, and now with EST offers an even higher level of security for providing certificates,” said Mark Doyle Engage President and CEO. “Increasingly recommended commercially and now adopted for US government programs (such as Commercial Solutions for Classified, CSfC), EST is the right way forward.”
The BlackVault platform is also available as a code signing appliance, BlackVault CYNR; and as a network attached HSM with support for PKCS#11 and Microsoft CAPI / CNG cryptographic libraries for Microsoft Authenticode, Eclipse, Android Studio and other build applications.
