ST. HELIER, Jersey--(BUSINESS WIRE)--O3b Networks today announced the signing of a deal with Axesat, agreeing to use the state-of-the-art O3b satellite network to provide Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with broadband capabilities and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) with 3G and 4G LTE connectivity for their subscribers. The agreement will also provide services to the corporate, government and residential markets.
Axesat will be able to provide much needed high quality, high throughput bandwidth to help Latin American businesses improve their competitiveness, and enable unconnected populations to enjoy the same quality of communications as those in large cities enjoy. With the innovative O3b architecture, Axesat will be able to continue scaling up capacity as demand increases.
O3b’s Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites orbit at 8,062km above the Earth and deliver data with a latency of less than 150ms—25% that of traditional geostationary (GEO) satellite systems. The low latency, high throughput O3b service will provide a significantly improved internet experience to end users. Axesat will implement O3b’s next-generation IP trunking solution, O3bTrunk, which will boost existing throughput capabilities immediately instead of having to wait years for expensive fiber deployments.
"Axesat is very happy to be bringing O3b’s high throughput, low latency trunk connectivity to Latin America," said Pablo Hoyos, Business Vice President of Axesat. "This agreement allows us to provide a superior service to a key markets, as well as private companies and government agencies, all demanding better telecommunications services. Working with state of the art technologies such as O3b, Axesat continues to be a leader in the market by improving the quality of communications to its customers”.
"We are thrilled to be working with Axesat, a Latin American service provider powerhouse, and one of the most innovative companies in the region. We look forward to expanding our relationship with them across Latin America”,” said Omar Trujillo, VP Latin America for O3b Networks. "Enabling broadband internet and 4G mobile networks to areas that have suffered from slow connectivity speeds is O3b’s primary goal.”
