IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kristen S. Monson, an alumna of the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business, has pledged $1.5 million to name the Grand Terrace in the new Merage School building. Monson’s gift is the largest pledged in support of the new business school facility and the largest received to date from a Merage School graduate.
"Kristen’s significant investment is exciting for all of us in the Merage School," said Eric Spangenberg, dean of The Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine. “Her gift represents the single largest philanthropic commitment to date toward our new building; it is particularly noteworthy to come from a member of the strong alumni network established by the School. It is our collective pleasure to name the Grand Terrace in honor of Kristen, and I am personally encouraged by her friendship, advice, and generous support.”
Monson retired as an executive vice president from PIMCO, a Newport Beach-based investment management firm with $1.5 trillion assets under management. During her more than 25 years at PIMCO, Monson managed large institutional client accounts, among other key responsibilities. She demonstrated her commitment to learning by creating the PIMCO Institute, an educational investment program for PIMCO’s worldwide clients. A 1986 MBA graduate of the UCI Paul Merage School of Business and a 1982 UCI undergraduate, Monson is a Charter Member of the Merage School Dean’s Leadership Circle and has served on the Dean’s Advisory Board for many years. She was the keynote speaker at the business school commencement ceremony in 2005 and is a recipient of the UCI Distinguished Alumni Award presented at the Lauds & Laurels Ceremony in 2006.
"My experiences at UCI laid the foundation for my success at PIMCO," said Monson. “I am grateful for a wonderful inspiring career at such a world class firm and feel privileged to be able to give back to UCI and to contribute to the brilliant future of The Paul Merage School of Business."
"With UCI celebrating its 50th anniversary, The Paul Merage School of Business is fortunate to count Kristen among our strongest of supporters," said Anders Yang, assistant dean for external relations at the Merage School. "We are extremely excited to partner with Kristen as she becomes chair of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the business school."
Since graduating the first class in 1968, The Paul Merage School of Business has grown significantly, due primarily to the generous donations from the business community. To make a pledge, please visit: https://ua-web.uadv.uci.edu/egiving.
