MIAMI & FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Radiation Shield Technologies, the only manufacturer that offers protective gear against all chemical, biological, ballistic, and radiological threats as well as heat stress, will present its newly expanded product line at the Personal Protective Equipment Conference 2015. The event takes place this week (Dec. 14 – Dec. 18) at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach, 3030 Holiday Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 33316. Booth No. 10. Specifically, RST will exhibit its complete line of Demron personal-protection gear, including Demron and Demron ICE full-body suits, Demron antinuclear vests, and Demron Anti Radiological Dispersion Device (Dirty Bomb) suppression blankets.
Demron, which has many U.S. and international patents, consists of an advanced radiopaque nanopolymeric compound fused between layers of fabric to manufacture the personal-protection gear.
At the event, RST will conduct live radiation testing of its patented Demron technologies. The company also will exhibit its latest addition to the product line: Demron ICE, the world’s first full-body suit that protects against viral, biological and chemical threats. The Demron ICE produce line, which is ASTM F1671 Blood and Viral Penetration Resistance certified, includes booties, gloves, and a face seal.
“In an ever-changing world where the threats to our first responders are ever changing, RST is proud to continue to meet a growing global demand for our advanced personal-protection technologies and expand our innovative product offerings,” said Ronald DeMeo, M.D., MBA, president of RST and the surgeon who invented Demron.
According to the PPE Conference website, the conference is designed as a professional development, education and networking resource for firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, special weapons and tactics operators, bomb technicians, hazardous materials technicians, veterinary specialists, rescue team members, and other first responders. The PPE 2015 Workshop is hosted by two Technical Support Working Group subgroups: Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) and Personnel Protection (PP). The subgroup's goals for the event support its overarching directive to conduct U.S. national interagency research and a development program for combating terrorism through rapid research, development, and prototyping. Sponsor support includes: the International Association of Fire Fighters, the National Fire Protection Association, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
The RST exhibition at the conference will feature another recent addition to the Demron product line: gear specifically designed for personal protection against dirty bombs, including radiation protective tactical vests, suppression blankets, and full-body suits.
Here’s how Demron is differentiated: When first responders wear other CBRN suits, their body heat is quickly trapped in the suits, causing the users to become increasingly weak until they are incapacitated. Because the suits are designed to keep harmful agents from entering, they also keep heat from exiting. However, the Demron fabric is differentiated by its unique thermally conductive properties that enable heat to leave the Demron suits through thermal radiation and also enable the suits to be cooled externally without compromising the suits.
“With Demron, first responders can operate in the field more safely and for longer periods of time than ever before,” Dr. DeMeo said.
Demron’s self-cooling system also makes it possible to provide external cooling with ice packs or wet towels and to monitor the user’s body temperature without having to remove or penetrate the suits. The Demron material also is differentiated for its superior flexibility, ruggedness, durability, and ability to withstand tearing, extensive use, decontamination procedures and corrosive agents.
Certifications include: ASTM F1670, ASTM F1671 Blood and Viral Penetration. ISO 8194 Certified: Radiation Protective Clothing, ISO 9001 Certified: Quality Management.
The Demron product line is currently deployed worldwide by every branch of the U.S. military, U.S. CST teams, FDNY, IAEC, NASA, and many international first responder and military teams in China, Iraq, Kuwait, South Korea, Pakistan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Singapore. Scientists have selected Demron for thermo-mechanical suits for future space travel. RST manufactures Demron and the nano materials at its research and development facility in Miami.
