Business Wire Names Robert Markel Chief Information Security Officer

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Robert Markel, an accomplished information security executive with more than a dozen years of proven leadership experience, has joined Business Wire as its Chief Information Security Officer, it was announced today.

Markel will be responsible for all of Business Wire's security-related systems, policies and procedures, network infrastructure, and protection strategies.

He joins Business Wire from Virgin America, where he served as Director of Information Security. Markel previously spent two dozen years working in Information Technology for a variety of companies ranging from Silicon Valley start-ups to large, well-established corporations in the San Francisco Bay area. He has held leadership roles in the area of Information Security in the travel, biotechnology, financial services, and research sectors, and is an informal advisor to several cybersecurity start-ups. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Tufts University.

Markel brings broad expertise to his new role, including supervisory responsibility for 24/7 security operations, vulnerability management, network security administration and governance, penetration testing, and regulatory compliance.
