NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ranieri Strategies LLC, a family of investment and asset management companies founded by Lewis S. Ranieri and focused on financial services and cognitive technologies, announces that two new partners are joining the firm in December 2015.
K. Krasnow Waterman comes to Ranieri Strategies most recently from TIAA-CREF where she was Managing Director of Enterprise Financial Crime Prevention. Ms. Waterman has an extensive background in data, technology (including FinTech and LegalTech) and data security. Ms. Waterman previously worked at Citibank, the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), JP Morgan, and IBM. While at the FBI, she was the Chief Information Officer who built a special counterterrorism task force created by the White House after the 9/11 attacks. Subsequently, she served in a “Chief Operating Officer” capacity for Intelligence, in which she was responsible for the FBI’s intelligence infrastructure, including technology, facilities, staffing, and budgets, and in this capacity shared the position of second-in-command of Intelligence. She participates in legal reasoning and privacy research at MIT, and was the creator of a multidisciplinary graduate course that launches new tech companies. Ms. Waterman also is an attorney and was the founding Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence & Robotics. In addition to her robust work experience, Ms. Waterman has published extensive articles on Big Data, Data Security, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics among various other topics. Ms. Waterman has a deep track record of building and revamping organizations in data intensive environments while helping to achieve business goals and reduce cost and risk. She will serve as a Managing Partner and Chief Technology Officer for Ranieri Strategies.
Eric Kaplan joins Ranieri Strategies from Shellpoint Partners LLC, a residential mortgage finance company of which Mr. Ranieri serves as Board Chair. With more than 22 years of residential mortgage industry experience in a variety of roles (including 5 years as a lawyer before moving into banking in 1998), Mr. Kaplan joined Shellpoint as Head of Mortgage Finance shortly after Shellpoint’s 2011 acquisition of mortgage lender New Penn Financial, LLC. At Shellpoint, Mr. Kaplan focused primarily on building Shellpoint’s non-agency residential mortgage securitization and whole loan program. Immediately prior to Shellpoint, Mr. Kaplan worked for 8-1/2 years at Morgan Stanley, helping to develop and manage its distressed residential mortgage business and covering a wide range of structured transactions and advisory engagements. Active within the Structured Finance Industry Group (“SFIG”), Mr. Kaplan is Chair of SFIG’s “RMBS 3.0” Task Force, an industry-led initiative established to reinvigorate the private label residential mortgage-backed securities (“RMBS”) market. He also actively participates in several other SFIG policy committees and task forces, as well as the U.S. Treasury-led Private Label Securitization Initiative (of which he serves as a working group co-chair). In addition to focusing on Ranieri Strategies’ various investment opportunities, Mr. Kaplan will work closely with Mr. Ranieri on housing, mortgage and RMBS reform endeavors with regulators and industry colleagues and continue his efforts on these matters within various industry groups. Mr. Kaplan will serve as Managing Partner – Structured Finance for Ranieri Strategies.
