Columbus Park Shortens Name, Launches Enhanced Website and Eating Disorder Treatment Blog

NEW YORK--()--Columbus Park, Manhattan’s leading outpatient treatment center for adults, adolescents and children with eating disorders, announced today that it has shortened its name (the center was previously known as Columbus Park Collaborative) and enhanced its online presence with a new interactive website and blog.

Launched by therapist Melissa Gerson, a former professional ballet dancer, Columbus Park is challenging many of the common perceptions about eating disorders with evidence-driven, lifestyle friendly, flexible outpatient programs that are helping patients get better with remarkable consistency.

“Our new website better represents and communicates the spirit of Columbus Park,” said Gerson. “Now people who need help (or their loved ones) can easily navigate through the site, learn about us and contact us directly and discreetly. We also offer a carefully researched blog where we discuss insights based on our experiences and share the latest information about treatments for eating disorders. An important part of healing is education -- understanding what these conditions are, that you are not alone and that there is help. We feel that the new website reflects this and hopefully will serve as a catalyst for people or their loved ones, here in New York or beyond, that are looking for help in a peaceful, non-disruptive environment.”

At Columbus Park, treatments are available for conditions such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder, among other conditions. Columbus Park offers solutions in the form of comprehensive outpatient treatment options that involve minimal change to one’s daily routine and lifestyle. Mounting evidence now suggests that these less restrictive, outpatient treatment options are more consistently effective for most patients. The clinical also offers a full range of supported dining experiences in group settings and one-to-one.

As Clinical Director, Gerson leads a multi-disciplinary team of experienced specialists who share a mission to provide help for adults, teens and children struggling with eating issues.

Gerson and her team blend evidence-based science with practical and compassionate therapists. Each step of the way, Columbus Park works with patients and their families via intensive outpatient treatment programs that are respectful of the daily needs and lifestyle of each patient…so that anyone can get the help they need.

Gerson earned her master’s degree in social work at NYU, and was previously an accomplished ballet dancer, dancing professionally as a Soloist with the Miami City Ballet before retiring to pursue a career in the field of mental health. Working with patients of all ages and walks of life, Gerson’s unique background and empathy have come into play in the treatment of performing artists and athletes, as well as patients from all walks of life.
