HAYWARD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--St. Rose Hospital, which is managed by Alecto Healthcare Services, has been recognized as one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by the leading accreditor of health care organizations.
St. Rose was recognized by the Joint Commission as attaining excellence in a number of performance areas, including heart attack and surgical care, using data collected in 2014. It is the second straight year St. Rose has received high honors from the Joint Commission under Alecto’s leadership.
Only 31.5 percent of the 3,300 critical access hospitals in the nation received Top Performer ratings for quality performance by the Joint Commission in the 2015 report.
“These rankings are a testament to our hardworking and dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff members who strive to provide the best, highest quality care to our patients,” said Lex Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of Alecto, based in Irvine, CA. “While we are honored by the recognition, we will continue to push ourselves as we focus on improving patient outcomes and services.”
In the 2015 report, St. Rose received recognition as Top Performer for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care. The hospital received similar Top Performer recognition the year before based on 2013 data.
A second Alecto hospital, Fairmont Regional Medical Center in Fairmont, WV., also received Top Performer honors for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Surgical Care, and Immunization.
St. Rose is a 217 bed non-profit acute care hospital that has served the needs of the community for more than 50 years. In 2011, faced with more than $40 million in debt and with losses exceeding $30 million, the St. Rose board of directors opted to explore options to preserve the safety net hospital. Alecto Healthcare Services was selected to manage St. Rose in September 2012, and in less than 12 months restored financial stability and instituted changes that have led to national recognition for the quality of care.
Alecto, which was recently selected to similarly manage Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Southern California, is a leading healthcare management company that specializes in improving hospital services through investment and innovation. Alecto’s senior management team has more than 150 years of combined experience operating and managing acute care hospitals and has played a role in turning around 20 financially distressed hospitals over the past several decades.
The Joint Commission Top Performer winners must meet three data-based performance criteria, including:

- Having at least one core measure with a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures with a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
