TAITUNG, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 2015 Taiwan Open of Surfing has attracted world surfing champions such as Taylor Jensen and Chelsea Williams and many other renowned surfers from around the world. The event will take place in Taitung County in eastern Taiwan, which boasts stable and beautiful waves that are recognized by the World Surfing League (WSL) as among the best in the world.
The WSL has listed sea waves off Jinzun, Taitung, southeastern Taiwan on the same class as those in the United States, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Bali Island and Thailand, particularly at a time when seasonal northeast winds are blowing.
World champions of longboard competitions Taylor Jensen, Harley Ingleby and Chelsea Williams, who holds the 2014 world title, will be joining the event in Taitung Nov. 26-29, organizers said.
French longboarder Crystal Dzigas, winner of the Hawaii world championship, and Takumi Nakamura, Japan’s top-ranked surfer who is only 19-year-old, will be joined by American Kai Hing, Australian Nic Jones and other renowned professionals at the Taitung event.
Top surfers from 13 countries, including Australia, Costa Rica, France, Ireland, Japan, New Zealdn, Peru, the United Kingdom and the United States, have registered for the top surfing event in Taiwan, according to the Taitung County Government which is the main organizer.
The 2015 Taiwan Open of Surfing, carries a purse of NT$2 million (US$313.000), is a recognized WSF QS1500 event, which is tantamount to a 3-star event in the old rating system, higher than previous 1-star events in Taiwan. As Taiwan’s only surfing event that is part of the WSL world circuits, it is expected to greatly elevate the level and broaden the horizon of Taiwan’s surfing sport.
With so many big names in the world surfing circle participating, fans are looking forward to a most exciting event that will very probably be written into the most brilliant chapter in the history of surfing of Taiwan, the organizers said.
