Janet Corrigan, Ph.D., M.B.A., Joins Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation

Former President and CEO of the National Quality Forum to Lead Patient Care Program

PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--Today, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced the appointment of Janet Corrigan, Ph.D., M.B.A., as the new chief program officer for patient care. Dr. Corrigan will lead the team responsible for distributing more than $40 million a year to improve the experience and outcomes of patient care.

Dr. Corrigan served as president and chief executive officer of the National Quality Forum for six years. Prior to that, she was director of the Quality Initiative at the Institute of Medicine where she led studies that produced To Err is Human and Crossing the Quality Chasm, landmark reports on medical errors and the quality or care that continue to be frequently cited and relied upon. Janet was also executive director of the 2008 President’s Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality, which released the Patient Bill of Rights.

Currently, Janet is a distinguished fellow at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice where she focuses on patient safety, performance measurement and transparency, and population health investment strategies.

Dr. Corrigan received her doctorate in health services research and master of industrial engineering degree from the University of Michigan. She also earned master’s degrees in business administration and community health from the University of Rochester.

Dr. Corrigan assumes her post February 2, 2016 and reports directly to Dr. Fineberg.

With more than $6.4 billion in assets, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation is the ninth largest foundation in the United States. The patient care program accounts for 15 percent of the organization’s annual grantmaking.
