BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), a national network of five hospitals that serves adult patients who are fighting cancer, collaborated with the American Lung Association to raise awareness of lung cancer, the leading cancer killer of men and women in the U.S., throughout November – Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
“We must act now to bring an end to this terrible disease,” said Harold P. Wimmer, National President and CEO of the American Lung Association. “Every donation we received on LUNG FORCE Giving Day, including the generous support from Cancer Treatment Centers of America, will bring us closer to defeating lung cancer.”
In addition to a matching gift of $100,000 to support the 2015 American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Giving Day, CTCA® hospitals and Stakeholders, or CTCA employees, across the country contributed another $82,135 to local American Lung Association charters. Yesterday, following LUNG FORCE Giving Day, CTCA leadership presented the matching gift plus locally-raised funds – a total of $182,135 – to Wimmer at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Ill.
CTCA also ran a national radio and print advertising campaign that highlighted the story of Jane Elterman, a stage IV lung cancer survivor, LUNG FORCE Hero and CTCA patient. In addition, CTCA hospitals, corporate offices and Stakeholders partnered with local American Lung Association charters to show their support by hosting a variety of events – all aimed at increasing education and support.
“From wearing turquoise on Turquoise Tuesday and hosting patient storytelling booths to raising funds for life-saving research, every single one of us is committed to raising awareness of lung cancer,” said Steve Mackin, Chief Operating Officer at CTCA. “It is heroes like Jane – who show incredible strength, courage and dedication – that remind us every day of the importance of funding critical research. We are proud to support this initiative.”
