NEWCASTLE, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Performance Horizon, the global leader in digital partner marketing, today announced it will host HackTrain on Saturday, November 21, 2015. During the two-day trip, teams of developers and designers from around the world will come together to design innovative software and mobile apps aimed at solving some of the rail industry’s biggest challenges.
120 HackTrain participants will be divided on three trains sponsored by GWR, Virgin Trains East Coast, and South West Trains. The trip will start in London on Friday, November 20 with stops at Doncaster and Newcastle and end at the National Railway Museum in York. Performance Horizon will host the ‘Infrastructure’ Virgin Trains East Coast participants, who while there, will develop their ideas in preparation for final presentations on Sunday and a chance to win a trip to Singapore.
“We understand the importance of innovation as it relates to solving real world problems and think hosting HackTrain participants is a great way to extend our involvement in not only the UK, but the global tech community,” said Alistair Wyse, Chief Information Officer for Performance Horizon. “We look forward to meeting the teams and getting a peek at their ideas and progress.”
This is HackTrain’s second hackathon on rails. The first event took place in March 2015 and had one train with 40 participants, showing how popular the event has already grown.
“We are delighted that Performance Horizon will support HackTrain from their Newcastle headquarters at such a pivotal part of the journey,” said River Tam, organiser of HackTrain. “For this event, our participants will be relying on support from the tech community to build their products.”
HackTrain participants will be active on social media during the event and tweeting with the official #HackTheRails. Each train will also have its own hashtag. GWR will use #GWRHackTrain for GWR, #VTECHHackTrain for Virgin Trains East Coast, and #SWTHackTrain for South West Trains.
