Survey Reveals: Moms Don’t Feel Guilty About Traveling Kid-Free

More than 50 percent of moms choose to “get busy” over sleeping in

PHILADELPHIA--()--A new survey* revealed that moms are embracing an entirely different and more adventurous persona while on vacation, but for the better. The survey conducted by Wakefield Research and Dreams Resorts & Spas® showed that while mothers have many responsibilities back home, they don’t feel guilty about escaping the daily grind, letting loose and recharging on what they call an “escape” vacation. Overwhelmingly, those surveyed admitted that a vacation without kids allows them to reconnect with their former selves and become better parents.

“The numbers are very revealing – this is the era of the Moms Escape. Moms want more than a change of scenery – they want to truly disconnect,” said Colette Baruth, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management for AMResorts®. “Whether traveling with or without the kids, moms are making it a priority to discover new destinations, better themselves as people and as parents, and build new memories through the gift of travel.”

The survey also uncovered that while 82 percent of moms take at least one “escape” vacation a year, 67 percent believe that traveling more often would make them happier than getting a promotion. This confirms that travel is a greater source of happiness than money or a job title.

A Different Kind of Bed Time: More than 50 percent of moms choose to “get busy” over sleeping in.

While on vacation, moms are looking to up the ante in the bedroom, with more than half choosing to “get busy” over sleeping in, and 85 percent of moms are already getting more intimate with their partner while on an “escape” trip. The next best thing? Laying by the pool and getting a tan tied for the second most popular activities on their vacation to-do lists.

Moms Gone Wild: 87 percent of moms said they like to do something crazy while on vacation.

Exciting memories aren’t just being made in the bedroom. 87 percent of moms said they like to do something crazy and out of character while on an escape vacation. Some of the fun activities moms mentioned include staying out all night (47 percent), skinny dipping (27 percent) and looking for a vacation “fling” (17 percent). A third of moms (38 percent) surveyed did something on a trip they didn’t tell their family about.

Getting their Groove Back: 55 percent of moms reported that traveling without kids improves their parenting.

Traveling kid-free is a common way for moms to find that lost mojo. 84 percent of moms revealed that traveling is the best way to stay connected to their former selves, and 55 percent reported that traveling sans kids improves their parenting. Solo travel also proved to be on the upswing. 72 percent of moms feel more adventurous traveling alone compared to traveling with their family.

“Moms are making travel a priority, with 72 percent looking to explore a new destination in 2016 and 66 percent already traveling kid-free,” Baruth added. “Dreams Resorts & Spas® is on a mission to help busy moms fulfill their vacation dreams. Whether they are looking to travel alone, have a romantic rendezvous, a family adventure or a girl’s trip, we are making it easier than ever to book that escape trip and ensure moms have an unforgettable time.”
