TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Coca-Cola is investing in Canada’s newest national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering and inspiring Mompreneurs®. The newly-formed Mompreneurs® Momentum Enterprise of Canada [Momentum] will provide education and business development services to Canadian women entrepreneurs. Thanks to a $50,000 investment from Coca-Cola Canada, an anticipated 10,000 women will benefit over the next year. Earlier this year, the Government of Canada pledged nearly $120,000 to support the new program.
Women entrepreneurs account for almost 20 per cent of small businesses in Canada, contributing approximately $148 billion into the Canadian economy and creating 1.5 million jobs. With the changing demographics of work, job stability and family-life balance, more women are exploring entrepreneurship as the key to their career and financial success.
"We have seen rapid growth in the number of female entrepreneurs in Canada over the last five years. There are tens of thousands of smart, capable women starting incredible businesses - however we see a decline in the number of those businesses that make it past the first five years,” says Maria Locker, CEO of The Mompreneur® Showcase Group. “We are so honoured to be working with Coca-Cola Canada to offer education-based learning and practical curriculum at a level that is attainable for all women in business, no matter the industry or their level of experience. It opens up a world of endless opportunities."
This is the first official Canadian investment through 5by20, The Coca-Cola Company’s global program to enable the economic empowerment of five million women entrepreneurs across its global value chain by 2020. “Women are pillars of our communities and the future of entrepreneurship in Canada,” says Tova White, Vice President of Human Resources at Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. “By investing in women entrepreneurs, Coca-Cola is helping to support our economy and build more prosperous communities.”
Momentum will use the new grant to focus on education and networking opportunities for Mompreneurs® across Canada. That includes a new online web portal with information, webinars and resources for Mompreneurs®, as well as monthly roundtable discussions, meetings and workshops across Canada. Offering resources, support, and guidance through educational content and actionable measures, Momentum strives to give women entrepreneurs the tools necessary to start and maintain a successful business.
Momentum plans to begin making the new programs available to Mompreneurs® beginning in winter 2015.
