ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--McKesson Business Performance Services (McKesson) will host an upcoming webinar, Chronic Care Management under CPT Code 99490: How to Improve Patient Engagement and Increase Reimbursement. The event is scheduled for November 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. EST, and will provide details about participating in the new chronic care management (CCM) payment program authorized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The CCM payment program makes it financially feasible for physicians to deliver care between office visits. Through CPT® Code 99490, physicians can be reimbursed for time invested outside of regular office visits, including phone or care coordination activities, to manage Medicare patients with two or more chronic conditions.
Medicare’s CCM payment of approximately $40 per member per month represents CMS’ first reimbursement for non-face-to-face clinical services and is designed to support better care continuity for chronically ill patients. Goals include mitigating the effects of the chronic disease, preventing complications, stimulating patient engagement, improving the patient’s quality of life and reducing costs.
In 2010, chronic diseases were responsible for seven out of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. and 86% of all healthcare spending, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The most common chronic diseases in 2010 were high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.
New revenue from Medicare’s CCM program could significantly impact a practice’s bottom line. McKesson’s Chronic Care Management Calculator was developed to provide insight into a practice’s potential revenue through CCM reimbursement. Beyond creating a new revenue opportunity, CCM reimbursement offers a low-risk bridge for clinicians seeking to transition from the fee-for-service environment to value-based reimbursement.
McKesson, a leader in revenue cycle management for physicians and hospitals, is now providing comprehensive chronic care management service support for healthcare organizations that elect to pursue the CCM reimbursement program.
