NEWBURY, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HEAT Software, the leading provider of Hybrid Service Management and Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) software, today announced that the University of East Anglia (UEA) has chosen to deploy HEAT PatchLink for Microsoft System Center in order to improve the management and security of its complex server environment.
With over 15,000 students, UEA is ranked in the top one percent of universities in the world, and is a leading member of the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe's biggest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environment, health and plant science.
Typical to all modern university IT environments, UEA’s researchers and students require access to a large number of applications, running across both Windows and non-Windows server environments – there are in excess of 400 servers in total at UEA. Already using Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to manage its Windows servers, UEA recently turned to HEAT PatchLink for Microsoft System Center to enable it to begin managing its Linux server estate within the same deployment.
HEAT Software provides the only solution for Microsoft SCCM that delivers centralised visibility, control and reporting for non-Windows server platforms in heterogeneous data centre environments. This uniquely enables organisations like UEA to extend centralised patch management visibility and control to non-Windows server operating systems within their existing Microsoft SCCM environments – simplifying and consolidating functions including patch management, compliance reporting and software distribution.
"It was very important for us to try and achieve centralised control across the entirety of our Windows and non-Windows environments. In particular we had the requirement for a Linux patch management solution – specifically for Red Hat Enterprise – that would plug into Microsoft SCCM in order to secure our Linux server estate,” said Jon Woodley, Head of Systems, IT and Computing Service at UEA. “The solution from HEAT Software uniquely allows one management infrastructure to be used, so this has considerably streamlined our security process management and has enabled us to achieve a single view of all critical software risk across our server estate.”
“Microsoft is committed to open source systems and supporting customers in managing the ubiquity of today’s computing environments. Partnering with innovators like HEAT Software allows organisations such as UEA to maintain security and control through the Microsoft System Center platform,” Boris Devouge, Director of OpenSource Strategy at Microsoft UK.
Roberto Casetta, Senior Vice President and General Manager of International at HEAT Software, concluded, “It has become exceedingly important for organisations like UEA to demonstrate reductions in IT burden and overall cost, while at the same time improving their security. By consolidating visibility and management of server estates, regardless of their operating systems, HEAT PatchLink for Microsoft System Center is designed to enable organisations to achieve this in a very fundamental way.”
