Phenomenex Sponsors Ten Cyclists to Ride from London to Paris for Charity

TORRANCE, Calif.--()--Ten cyclists from Phenomenex companies around the world took to the streets and highways of Europe, riding nearly 290 miles/466 kilometers over 3 days in the London to Paris Cycling Challenge to raise money for charities they hold dear, including The Outward Bound Trust (UK), The Outward Bound (USA), Cheers Foundation Orphanage (India), and Epilepsy Research UK. Each of the riders, financially sponsored by Phenomenex, traveled with their bicycles all the way from company sites in India, Spain, USA, The Netherlands, Germany, UK, and Italy, converging in London before heading off on their adventure.

“This incredible group of athletes truly are champions, and I was so thrilled to be able to take part in such a memorable and life-changing experience,” says Senior Marketing Manager Terrell Mathews of Phenomenex USA with a big smile on his face. “I am so inspired by my colleagues, the long months of training, the encouragement they had for one another, and the positive attitude throughout all of the adversities we faced – exhaustion, injury, and even getting lost multiple times and making the ride much longer than it should have been! This selfless commitment to philanthropy combined with an inspiring competitive attitude and sense of humor is ubiquitous amongst Phenomenex staff. I'm so fortunate to know and work with such amazing people, and truly grateful for the opportunity to give back with the support of Phenomenex.”

For each rider, Phenomenex sponsored race entry and travel fees and donated an additional £8,000.00/$12,000.00 to The Outward Bound Trust (UK), funds that will go towards sending underprivileged youth to participate in life-changing outdoor learning programs. Meanwhile, leading up to the event, each rider had already achieved their own personal fundraising goals, totaling £13,000.00/$20,000.00, to donate to each of the charities they were riding for.

When asked about the ride, Product Manager Helen Whitby of Phenomenex UK joked that, “following the correct route may have made for a more comfortable ride!,” then quickly added “but it wouldn’t have nurtured the amazing team spirit and comradery we shared over the 3 days and hundreds of miles. It was an honour to be part of an event, raising such a lot of money for a fantastic cause whilst having an unforgettable time. I am so grateful to Phenomenex for the never ending support and opportunity to do such wonderful things.”
