Free Range Games Launches Kickstarter for Labyrinth – Genre-Busting Collectible Card Game for PC

Game Industry Trailblazers and Magic: The Gathering Pros Rally Behind New Game that Fuses Collectible Card and Role-Playing Game Genres

SAUSALITO, Calif.--()--Free Range Games, an independent game studio dedicated to delivering top-quality accessible games, announced today that they are in development on a new Collectible Card Game (CCG) adventure called Labyrinth, a genre-busting computer game that combines the depth of traditional CCGs and the action of tactical role-playing games (RPG) in an immersive 3D universe. The company is launching a Kickstarter today at, where fans can support the game’s development and ensure the vision is delivered.

Labyrinth has already garnered a fan following from game industry trailblazers:

“With Labyrinth, Free Range Games is taking the CCG category in an exciting new direction. I’m personally a fan of the 3D battles, which bring a new level of visceral action to the genre.” - Bret Robbins, Creative Director, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

“I’m a CCG fan and I can’t wait to play Labyrinth.” - Scott Pease, former Studio Development Director, Neversoft Entertainment (creators of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise).

“Free Range Games is creating a timeless adventure that fans will be able to enjoy for years to come.” - Charles Huang, Co-Founder, RedOctane (creators of the Guitar Hero franchise).

Labyrinth is also being made in collaboration with former Magic: The Gathering US National Champion and founder of Stone Blade Entertainment, Justin Gary, and his team – also comprised of many Magic: The Gathering pros, who used their card playing experience to develop digital card games SolForge and Ascension. In partnership with Free Range Games, Stone Blade Entertainment is spearheading game and card design.

Justin Gary, founder of Stone Blade Entertainment, said, “Our experience in the CCG space made us a natural fit for Labyrinth, but what attracted us to the game is Free Range Games’ shared passion for the genre and their unique vision for the gameplay. I am thrilled to be a part of the team and I can’t wait for other CCG fans to play Labyrinth.”

In Labyrinth, players are both Adventurers and Dungeon Masters. As Adventurers they must assemble a powerful deck of Heroes and then invade rival dungeons and engage in epic player vs. player 3D battles to capture loot. As Dungeon Masters, they will use the loot from conquests to customize their own dungeons and put together a powerful deck of Bosses, Monsters and Trap cards to defend their riches at all costs. An additional level of strategy is introduced as multi-player battles are fought asynchronously, which means each player can take their time to plan their defense.

“Labyrinth embodies what we believe will help re-define and establish a new kind of game experience for CCG and RPG fans,” said Chris Scholz, president and CEO, Free Range Games. “Labyrinth is a love letter written to the things that first ignited our passion for gaming – CCGs, fantasy RPGs and turn-based PC strategy games. We truly believe we have something special on our hands, so with the support of Kickstarter backers, I’m confident we could deliver a fantastic game that players will love and spans the test of time.”
