Cloudmark Engineering Director Named Leading Woman in Cybersecurity

Network Security Leader Encourages More Women to Join the Fight against Cyberattacks

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Cloudmark, Inc., a trusted leader in intelligent network security, today announced that Director of Engineering Angela Knox has been named as one of the leading women in cybersecurity by CBR Magazine. This recognition is the latest acknowledgement of Knox’s recent work promoting women in cybersecurity.

Currently, only 11 percent of people in the IT security profession are women. A lack of mentorship and salary discrepancies are just some of the obstacles impacting women’s participation in the industry. During the RSA Conference in April, Knox championed the benefits and importance of having more women working in cybersecurity, and the need to counteract common misperceptions within the industry.

“As we move to an increasingly connected world, the industry needs to resolve this messaging issue, and make security a normal part of all people’s everyday lives,” said Knox. “By doing so, we can look to grow the number of women involved in this key area of technology.”

Knox’s recent recognition is the latest industry validation of Cloudmark’s team of innovators, who propelled the company to double-digit revenue growth in the first half of 2015. As the number of cyberattacks continues to rise and high-profile data breaches increasingly occupy news headlines, Cloudmark expects to see continued momentum for its network security solutions. With the growing understanding that the next high-profile hack is only a matter of time away, businesses recognize now more than ever the need to take precautions to protect their networks.

Cloudmark’s intelligent threat-detection technology solutions have also helped to shine a spotlight on business vulnerabilities. Data from Cloudmark has shown that large multinational corporations are not the only ones at risk; organizations of all size are in danger from cyberattacks, particularly ransomware and spear phishing for financial transfers. Coupled with this is the varying origins of cyberattacks. Cloudmark also uncovered an interesting trend in the UK, with Germany and the U.S. being the most active nations for sending email-based attacks. In fact, 56 percent of all email from Germany to UK-based Cloudmark customers is now considered spam.

“Cybersecurity is at a pivotal moment. With an increase in not only the volume but complexity of attacks, security teams have to work harder than ever to protect their customer’s infrastructure,” added Knox. “We expect the next 12 months to be some of the busiest the security industry has ever seen. With this in mind, now is the time to encourage diversity within the security sector in order to keep businesses safe.”

Knox will continue to share her insight into the most prevalent cyberattacks and their effects on networks as she joins a panel discussion at Competitive Carrier Association's (CCA) Annual Convention. The session explores how carriers can identify if they are at risk and what they can do to insulate networks from cyberattacks.
