UL Workplace Health & Safety Offers Complimentary Safety Class in Recognition of Drive Safely Work Week

FRANKLIN, Tenn.--()--UL Workplace Health & Safety, the industry’s leading provider of workplace health and safety solutions, is offering a free eLearning course on the dangers of distracted driving during Drive Safely Work Week, from October 5 through October 9, 2015.

The course, part of UL Workplace Health & Safety’s comprehensive and award-winning online eLearning library, addresses a key safety concern for companies that want to promote worker safety. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), driver inattention is a factor in 80% of highway collisions. This course will help drivers identify possible distractions and offer strategies for remaining focused while on the road. It will be offered through UL Workplace Health and Safety’s website at www.ULworkplace.com/freecourse.

Drive Safely Work Week, sponsored by the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, is an annual campaign aimed at encouraging drivers to prepare for unfamiliar driving situations, plan each trip they take, realize how age affects driving, and ensure they are driving with a clear head. Today, on-the-job crashes have become a significant and costly safety risk for employers, costing employers an average of $24,500 for each incident, $128,000 for each injury, and $3.8 million for each fatality.

“Workers are put at risk every time they get on the road, whether on the way to work or running errands," said Mark Ward, general manager and vice president of UL Workplace Health & Safety. “Because motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of workplace fatalities in the United States and 16% of all crashes involve distracted drivers, it’s our job to help educate drivers to lessen their likelihood of injury or death in the car.”

UL Workplace Health & Safety is trusted by more than 2,000 organizations in more than 20 major industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, construction, and energy. Its customized eLearning programs provide an engaging learning experience for employees, which is reflected in both the course content itself and how it is presented.
