Larry Turner, President and CEO of Hannover Fairs USA

CHICAGO--()--HANNOVER MESSE and Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) hosted a pre-Manufacturing Day press conference on September 30 in Chicago, Illinois, as part of the activities leading up to HANNOVER MESSE 2016 in Hannover, Germany. The U.S. has been selected as the partner country for HANNOVER MESSE 2016, the world’s largest and most influential B2B event for industrial technology, which takes place from April 25–29, 2016, in Hannover, Germany.

Speakers discussed the state of U.S. manufacturing and how HANNOVER MESSE will be an unparalleled opportunity to promote American manufacturing with the focus on the U.S. in its role as partner country. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited President Obama to join her at the official opening of the trade show on April 25, 2016.

Larry Turner, President and CEO of Hannover Fairs USA, welcomed speakers and attendees to the press conference, saying, “Our presence in Chicago at Goose Island is particularly appropriate because we are at one of the premier advanced manufacturing hubs initiated by President Obama, as the U.S. has been selected for the first time as the partner country for HANNOVER MESSE in 2016. HANNOVER MESSE is a leading global manufacturing event that draws over 220,000 visitors and 6,500 exhibitors from more than 70 countries.“

Dr. Caralynn Collens, CEO of UI LABS, which manages DMDII and where the press conference was held, said, “The Hannover fair is an excellent opportunity to promote American manufacturing and the interconnectedness of advanced manufacturing in a global arena. HANNOVER MESSE’s themes of ‘the Internet of Things” and “Industrie 4.0” are closely aligned with the strategic direction of our Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII), bringing together world-class companies and innovators to transform manufacturing for the digital age.“

Two multinational technology corporations and long-time partners of HANNOVER MESSE explained how working with HANNOVER MESSE helps propel their global manufacturing exports and investments in U.S. operations.

Greg Scheu, President of the Americas region for ABB, said, “As an American, I’m proud of ABB’s 67 year history with HANNOVER MESSE and pleased to introduce the United States audience to Hannover’s long tradition as the world’s largest and most important industrial technology trade fair. One of the most important things that ABB does is make manufacturing more competitive by increasing productivity and efficiencies, and Hannover, whose attendees are opinion leaders and decision makers, has long been a showcase for that. Just last year, we exhibited our breakthrough collaborative robot, YuMi, and we registered more than 10,000 qualified visitors to our booth. That level of exposure is invaluable to us.”

Dr. Helmuth Ludwig, Executive Vice President of Digital Enterprise Realization and Chief Manufacturing Officer for Siemens PLM Software, said, “Siemens is the largest exhibitor at HANNOVER MESSE, and we are very pleased to be able to showcase our latest innovations in electrification, automation and digitalization with a focus on the “Digital Enterprise” during the upcoming fair."

Larry Turner concluded the press conference by explaining that HANNOVER MESSE offers a significant opportunity for U.S. manufacturers to increase their business with export opportunities in foreign markets. He encouraged everyone to plan to attend HANNOVER MESSE 2016 in Hannover, Germany, from April 25-29, 2016, or to attend the press preview to be held on January 27, 2016, also in Hannover.
