Dalhousie University Teams up with AppArmor to Improve Campus Safety

TORONTO--()--With the start of a new school year, mobile safety for universities and colleges has been a trending topic. At Dalhousie, student safety is not a topic that is taken lightly, especially in light of recent events. To that end, the Maritime school and one of Canada’s leading academic institutions has been making great strides in campus safety by working with AppArmor to create a custom campus safety app, DalSAFE.

AppArmor, a division of Cutcom Software, in collaboration with Dalhousie University, are excited to announce the release of a mobile safety app as a way to improve campus safety.

The app – called “DalSAFE” – offers students, faculty, and staff customized safety features and resources for Dalhousie University. The primary objective of the mobile safety app is to make campus safety resources and contacts more accessible for the school’s 18,000+ students and to improve emergency responses.

“By making it free and available to students with an iPhone, Blackberry or Android, the app represents a better way to make students safe and make them feel safe because suddenly security is accessible to anyone, anywhere, at any time,” says Jake MacIsaac from Dalhousie Security.

Like all AppArmor apps, the layout of Dalhousie’s “DalSAFE” is based on the University’s institutional branding and was customized by Dalhousie University staff. The app provides quick access to campus security resources, geolocation features, interactive maps, and accessible emergency plans even when the user is offline. The app also provides the Dalhousie University team with the ability to send mass notifications to all app users, even when the app isn’t running.

Students on the Dalhousie University campus can download DalSAFE in the App Store, Google Play, and Blackberry World.
