NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AOL and Snoopadelic Films today announced the creation of a brand new original video series directed by and starring entertainment icon, Snoop Dogg. Snoop made the announcement at AOL’s Future Front event at Pier 36 in New York City in front of more than 2,500 attendees from the media and marketing industry. The evening was a celebration of bold new ways that AOL is empowering builders of culture and code to unleash new experiences and platforms for the next generation of the internet, powered by mobile.
“When it comes to original content, we have always partnered with the best talent in the business to tell the most compelling stories through sight, sound, and motion,” said Jimmy Maymann, EVP and President, AOL Content and Consumer Brands, AOL. “This series is the perfect example of content we are proud to create, and we have already been inspired by the perseverance and heart of the young players in Snoop’s league.”
"Mentoring kids through SYFL means more to me than anything else I do," Snoop Dogg said. "It's my way of continuing to connect with the communities that move me. I get to know kids and parents with great spirits from all over, and it becomes something far beyond football. It is important to not only be a football coach to these kids, but to be a life coach as well. It's our way of sharing a life together. This series will finally give the world a chance to witness the stories, talent, and commitment SYFL represents in the same way I do."
Debuting later this year, the eight episode series will follow players and coaches participating in the Snoop Youth Football League as they travel across the country to compete against rival teams, highlighting their struggles and triumphs both on and off the field.
The Snoop Youth Football League serves low-income youth between the ages of five and thirteen, and, within the program, the entertainment icon and his coaches emphasize the values of teamwork, good sportsmanship, discipline and self-respect. The series will show viewers an entirely different and rarely-seen side of Snoop, who founded the Snoop Youth Football League in 2005 and remains closely involved in coaching.
AOL has been a long-standing investor in digitally-native and live programming made for the Web and mobile experience, and is a founding member of the annual Digital Content NewFronts. AOL’s original series has garnered a total of four Emmy nominations over the past two years, including 2015 nominations for True Trans with Laura Jane Grace and AOL's MAKERS.
AOL is a media technology company with a mission to simplify the internet for consumers and creators by unleashing the world's best builders of culture and code. As one of the largest online properties with over 500 million monthly global consumers of its premium brands, AOL is at the center of disruption of how content is being produced, distributed, consumed and monetized by connecting publishers with advertisers on its global, programmatic content and advertising platforms. AOL's opportunity lies in shaping the future of the digitally connected world for decades to come. AOL is a subsidiary of Verizon.
