Magellan Health, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Organizations Launch 22to0 Campaign Marking National Suicide Prevention Month

Call on all individuals to make suicide a “Never Event”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--Magellan Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: MGLN) today announced that it has joined with several mental health and suicide prevention organizations to launch a social media campaign marking National Suicide Prevention Month, which began September 1. The 22to0 campaign is aimed at establishing an “Early Warning System” which encourages individuals to look, listen and ask courageous questions if they believe someone may be contemplating suicide.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there is an average of 22 veteran suicides each day, or over 8,000 per year. Magellan Health has been joined by the Mental Health Association of New York City, Stop Soldier Suicide, RI International (formerly Recovery Innovations), LivingWorks Education, Behavioral Health Link and the GI Film Festival in leading this campaign.

“Everyone has a responsibility to help end suicide. By utilizing social media, we are sharing tools to help identify and support individuals contemplating suicide. We’re also using this opportunity to de-stigmatize and correct the myths that have surrounded suicide for years,” said Michael Braham, senior vice president of Magellan Federal, a division of Magellan Health, which supports veterans, military and federal workers. “The campaign focuses on reducing the number of suicides by veterans from 22 per day to zero – because anything greater than zero is too many.

“The men and women who serve our country do so beyond their active duty, and more must be done to help them as they transition back into our communities and day-to-day life. Magellan believes in the goal of making suicide a ‘never event,’ and by working with other organizations also focused on the goal of eradicating suicide, we can share information and resources to help change the narrative and the trajectory of suicide in our country,” Braham continued.

Individuals who wish to support the campaign are asked to change their profile pictures to the 22to0 logo, and share the resources and information being provided by Magellan Federal and other organizations with their own social networks.
