KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Time is running out to submit for the Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards, the official awards program held by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards celebrates the best Bluetooth enabled products and applications available on the market today, and recognizes innovative prototypes coming soon. All entries are due by 2 November 2015. The program has four categories: Product, Application, Prototype, and Student-led Projects.
“Previous Breakthrough Awards winners have highlighted the remarkable Bluetooth innovation coming to market in everything from smart home and retail, to health and wellness, wearables and consumer electronics. This year, we are seeing even more exciting entries that confirm the incredible potential for Bluetooth technology to change the way we live, work and play,” said Errett Kroeter, vice president of marketing, Bluetooth SIG. “The Breakthrough Awards is our way of highlighting the cutting-edge companies, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and students who are using Bluetooth technology to drive innovation and make the Internet of Things a reality.”
The Bluetooth SIG will announce finalists the week of 7 December 2015. Category and overall winners will be announced on 5 January 2016 at the Bluetooth SIG’s Discover Blue event held in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Finalists and winners will be promoted on Bluetooth SIG websites, press releases, social media channels, and other SIG communications. Additional sponsor donated prizes may also be offered.
Product, Prototype and Application category winners will be invited to the Bluetooth SIG’s Discover Blue event in Las Vegas to showcase their entry to the attending media.
The Student category winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000 USD.
The overall winner of the Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards program will receive two round-trip tickets to Bluetooth World 2016, including two conference passes and booth space in the exhibition hall (valued at $12,500 USD).
All products must use Bluetooth technology and be available for promotion starting 5 January 2016. Entrants are encouraged to submit a one- to two-minute video highlighting their product, application, or prototype at work. Entries will be judged on uniqueness of the idea, ease of use, and correct use of Bluetooth trademarks. Entries with incomplete information will not be considered. Additional category specific criteria include the following:
Breakthrough Products – Entries must be for products launched and available for purchase in 2015. Submissions will be judged on level of innovation and unique or intriguing uses of the technology. Products must be qualified and listed according to the Bluetooth SIG Compliance program. This category is only open to Bluetooth SIG members.

Applications will be evaluated on the innovative functionality of the application when interacting with the expanding breadth of Bluetooth enabled devices. This category is only open to Bluetooth SIG members.
