Check City’s Annual Food Drive Provides 51,000 Meals to Utahns in Need

Check City and its customers donate thousands of dollars to the Utah Food Bank

SALT LAKE CITY--()--Check City today announced the results of its successful partnership with Utah Food Bank to raise food and cash donations for Check City’s Warm Hearts Summer Food Drive. The donations aided in replenishing Utah Food Bank’s depleted reserves and provided over 51,000 meals.

Check City customers and local residents collectively donated over 900 pounds of food and $7,178 in cash. Check City matched the cash donations and delivered a $14,356 check to the food bank earlier this month. For every $1 donated, the Utah Food Bank is able to turn that into $7.61 in goods and services; with the Check City donation, over $109,250 in goods and services will benefit the food bank and Utah residents.

“We believe in the Utah Food Bank’s mission to fight hunger statewide and are thankful to all those who donated to the Check City summer food drive. I am proud of our employees for donating their time and our customers for donating food and money to make this drive a resounding success,” said Check City President Tracy Rawle.

Check City is a short-term lender and has provided financial solutions and other services since 1986. The company encourages its customers and employees to participate in various charity drives and volunteerism throughout the year. The Warm Hearts Summer Food Drive was a great opportunity for the public to get involved.

“Utah Food Bank is excited to have the support of Check City and its customers across the state,” said Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank chief development officer. “When kids are out of school without access to school meal programs, additional demands are placed on already strained budgets. These donations came at a crucial time to help fill that gap.”

In Utah 444,000 residents, or one in six Utahns, are at risk of missing a meal each day. Even more alarming is that one in five Utah kids are unsure where their next meal is coming from. The Utah Food Bank distributed over 37.5 million pounds of food last year, the equivalent of over 31 million meals, to people facing hunger across the state.
