IS Decisions Launches FileAudit 5 with New Features to Help Administrators Defend Data against Improper Access, Alteration or Destruction

Major update to file monitoring software provides optimal visibility of data access events including mass and irregular access alerts and IP tracking

LONDON--()--FileAudit, the security solution from IS Decisions which enables IT professionals to proactively monitor access to company-sensitive files and folders on Windows systems in real time, has received a major update. Its latest version, FileAudit 5, includes three significant new features that will help organizations detect and combat malicious access and alteration of sensitive information.

The new features include:

  • Mass access and alteration event alerts: FileAudit 5 can now send administrator alerts when mass access, copying, deletion or movement of bulk files has been detected, indicating a potential breach.
  • Access tracking by IP address: The new software will indicate where the user has accessed the file from, including if the user accessed the file from a different workstation, by identifying the IP address. This further strengthens user identification and accountability.
  • Irregular access time alerts: The third new feature minimises the risk from access outside of regular working times by triggering administrator alerts when files are accessed during non-business hours.

The new software launches as research conducted by IS Decisions, has shown that less than a third of employees in the regulated industries of healthcare, finance and law in the UK and the US are aware of their employer monitoring file access or actions. Given many of these industries work under standards such as ISO 27002, HIPAA and PCI DSS requiring strict access control measures, this indicates that many organizations are not adhering to the industry regulations FileAudit 5 could help them meet.

FileAudit 5’s new features not only give IT professionals optimal visibility into what is happening to the organization’s data, but the opportunity to react quickly in identifying potential abuse therefore reducing risk of security breaches significantly. Organizations can also prove to regulators that sensitive information is being monitored and protected effectively through comprehensive monitoring on all access activity to data found on files, folders and file shares.

FileAudit 5 is designed to protect sensitive enterprise data from potential theft, alteration or deletion and to help regulated organizations meet compliance requirements and avoid compliance-related penalties.

François Amigorena, CEO of IS Decisions, said, “The new introductions to FileAudit, including alerts for bulk file copying and mass deletion or movement, as well as IP tracking, are features our customers have been calling for. They go further than ever in providing IT professionals a complete picture of the access events on their organizations’ sensitive data. This is important when we are hearing that many organizations that are required to have strict user access restrictions and monitoring in place, ensuring user identification and accountability, do not.”
