Klick employees use domino effect to spell big four-letter word in revealing, new ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video

Challenge Co-Founder and ALS Patient/Advocate Pat Quinn stars in #EveryAugustUntilACure video

TORONTO--()--Klick Inc. resorted to using a big four-letter word earlier this week in the filming of its Ice Bucket Challenge with Challenge Co-Founder Pat Quinn.

The company’s video, officially released today on YouTube, follows a seemingly random chain of about 70 Klicksters dumping buckets of ice water on each other outside its downtown Toronto headquarters.

However, aerial footage from a 196-foot-high rooftop camera reveals that the employees and their bright blue buckets, which resemble falling dominoes, are spelling the word “CURE” – paying homage to Quinn’s five-word acceptance speech at this spring’s Webby Awards. The speech, “Every August Until A Cure,” has since become the Ice Bucket Challenge’s official slogan.

Quinn repeats the speech near the end of the video before being doused with ice water and applauded by the crowd of Klicksters and onlookers.

At the filming, Klick Co-Founder and CEO Leerom Segal said, “We’re participating again this year in the Ice Bucket Challenge and we’re incredibly lucky to be joined today by Pat Quinn who along with Pete [Frates], a year ago, started the Ice Bucket Challenge. Pat is a courageous and inspiring individual…and we’re grateful to have him here.”

As part of the Ice Bucket Challenge tradition, Segal called out Acorda Therapeutics CEO Ron Cohen, Biotechnology Industry Organization President and CEO Jim Greenwood, and Google’s Industry Lead for Health Ryan Olohan to take up the Challenge next.

Diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in March 2013 at the age of 30, Quinn shared his story at a Klick event in Philadelphia in April. He and Pete Frates created the Challenge last summer, which raised global awareness and $220 million for ALS research. Last week, they launched the 2nd annual ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at Fenway Park in Boston.
